1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account on Verso or using any part of the service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use Verso.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Coding Everest (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa ("we", "us", "Coding Everest").

2. About Verso

Verso is an AI-powered platform that generates original works of fiction. Users select styles, moods, and parameters, and our AI ("Scribius") produces complete fictional stories — including novels, short stories, and children's tales.

All content generated by Verso is fiction. Stories, characters, places, and events are entirely invented. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or actual events is coincidental. Verso does not generate non-fiction, factual content, or reference material.

All content is generated using artificial intelligence. No human author writes the stories.

3. Eligibility & Accounts

3.1 Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Verso account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3.2 Kids Profile

The Kids Profile feature is designed for children aged 5–12 and must be set up and supervised by a parent or legal guardian who holds the Verso account. The parent or guardian is responsible for all activity on the Kids Profile. Children may not create their own accounts.

3.3 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account. We are not liable for any loss arising from unauthorised access to your account.

4. Subscriptions & Credits

4.1 Free Trial

New accounts receive a 3-day free trial with 3 credits. During the trial, only shorter book lengths are available. No payment is required to start a trial.

4.2 Subscription Plans

Verso offers monthly subscription plans. Each plan includes access to the platform and a monthly credit allocation. Plan details and pricing are displayed on the Verso website and may change with notice.

4.3 Credits

Credits are used to generate books. Each book costs a certain number of credits based on its length. Credits can be purchased in packs or received as part of a subscription. Purchased credits do not expire.

4.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period. It will not renew. Unused credits from purchased packs remain in your account.

4.5 Refunds

  • Failed generations: Credits are automatically refunded if a book generation fails.
  • Subscriptions: No prorated refunds for mid-cycle cancellations.
  • Credit packs: Purchases are non-refundable.
  • Licensing fees: Non-refundable.
  • Special circumstances: If you believe you are entitled to a refund due to a technical issue, faulty license, or other exceptional circumstance, you may contact us at support@codingeverest.co.za with a description of the issue. Refund requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

4.6 Upgrades

You may upgrade your subscription plan at any time. When upgrading, your remaining subscription days carry over to the new plan. The upgrade credit allocation is applied immediately.

5. Content & Intellectual Property

5.1 Ownership Without a License

Books generated on Verso are owned by Coding Everest (Pty) Ltd until a commercial license is purchased. As the generating user, you have the right to:

  • Read, store, and access your books within Verso
  • Share books with other Verso users via the sharing feature
  • Delete your books at any time

Without a license, you may not:

  • Publish, distribute, or sell the generated content outside of Verso
  • Claim authorship for commercial purposes
  • Use the content in any commercial product or service

5.2 AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

All books are generated by artificial intelligence. While we strive for quality and originality, we cannot guarantee that generated content will be free from errors, inconsistencies, or unintended similarities to existing works. You acknowledge that AI-generated content may occasionally produce unexpected results.

5.3 Our Rights

Coding Everest reserves the right to use anonymised, aggregated data about platform usage to improve the service. We may also use brief excerpts from generated content for marketing and promotional purposes, without identifying the generating user.

6. Licensing

6.1 Single Story License

A Single Story License grants you full commercial rights to one specific book you generated on Verso. You may publish it under your own name, sell it, and distribute it in any format. No attribution to Verso or Coding Everest is required, though it is appreciated.

6.2 Author's License

An Author's License grants you full commercial rights to all books you generate on Verso for the duration of the license period (12 months). The same rights and conditions as the Single Story License apply to every book generated during the active license period.

6.3 License Conditions

  • Licenses are non-transferable and apply only to the purchasing user's account.
  • Licenses apply only to books you generated. You cannot license books shared with you by other users.
  • If you publish a licensed book, you are solely responsible for ensuring it complies with the publishing platform's policies regarding AI-generated content.
  • Licensing fees are non-refundable, except in cases of technical fault (see Section 4.5).

7. Sharing

Verso allows you to share books with other users via a unique link. When a book is shared:

  • The recipient receives a copy of the book in their library.
  • The original book remains in your library, unaffected.
  • The recipient may read and enjoy the shared copy but may not purchase a commercial license for it, as they are not the original creator.
  • Sharing is permanent — once a copy is delivered, it cannot be revoked by the sender.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Verso to:

  • Generate content that is sexually explicit, pornographic, or depicts sexual acts
  • Generate content depicting extreme violence, torture, or gore beyond what the content rating system permits
  • Generate content that promotes or glorifies terrorism, self-harm, or suicide
  • Generate content that targets, harasses, or discriminates against any individual or group
  • Attempt to bypass the content filter or rating system
  • Use the Kids Profile to generate content inappropriate for children
  • Spam the generation system or abuse the API
  • Share your account credentials with others
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with Verso
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of Verso
  • Misrepresent AI-generated content as human-written in contexts where disclosure is legally required

Verso employs a content filter and age rating system. While we make reasonable efforts to enforce content standards, we cannot guarantee that all generated content will be appropriate for all audiences. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising use of the Kids Profile.

9. Enforcement & Termination

9.1 Warnings

Violations of these Terms or the Acceptable Use policy will result in a warning issued to your account. Warnings are cumulative.

9.2 Account Suspension

After three (3) warnings, your account will be suspended (banned). Suspended accounts cannot access Verso or generate new content. Existing books and data are retained but inaccessible.

You have 30 days from the date of suspension to contact us at support@codingeverest.co.za to submit an appeal or retrieve any data you are entitled to. If no contact is made within 30 days, your account and all associated data will be permanently deleted.

9.3 Immediate Suspension

We reserve the right to immediately suspend an account without prior warning for severe violations, including but not limited to: attempts to generate illegal content, abuse of the Kids Profile, or any activity that poses a risk to other users or the platform.

9.4 Appeals

If you believe your account was suspended in error, you may contact us at support@codingeverest.co.za to submit an appeal within the 30-day window described above. Appeals are reviewed within 14 business days. If the suspension is found to be unjustified, your account will be reinstated.

9.5 Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

10. Disclaimers & Limitations

10.1 Service Availability

Verso is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may perform maintenance, updates, or modifications that temporarily affect availability.

10.2 Content Quality

We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, originality, or suitability of AI-generated content. Generated stories are fictional and should not be relied upon for factual information.

10.3 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, Coding Everest (Pty) Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Verso, including but not limited to: loss of profits, data, or goodwill.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Verso shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10.4 Third-Party Services

Verso uses third-party services for authentication, data storage, and AI processing. We are not responsible for the availability or performance of these services.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Verso after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you via email or an in-app notice.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA). Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
